Exciting News for Livingston Parish

From WAFB: Gov. Bobby Jindal announced a $7 million investment for the I-12 widening project Thursday morning. The news was delivered while he traveled to Livingston Parish for his "Louisiana Working Tour."
Jindal said the money came from savings on federal Recovery Act transportation projects which were completed way under initial projections.
Officials said the money will go to widening the westbound lanes of I-12 to Pete's Highway and the eastbound lanes from Pete's Highway all the way to Juban Road.
Combining the $7 million in savings with $24 million in state surplus funds appropriated this year, the state will seek design-build bids to complete both the eastbound and westbound lanes to Juban Road.
The governor noted if the bids come back with good enough rates, the state will be able to announce the widening of both eastbound and westbound lanes all the way to Juban Road by the end of this year.
"This $31 million investment represents our continued commitment to finishing the I-12 widening project," said Jindal. "We know how important I-12 is to Livingston Parish and the future growth of our state and we're going to continue to find ways to get it done. Today's announcement will help to significantly reduce congestion for commuters and improve the quality of our roads so that they are safer for families and help to spur economic growth."
The $31 million investment came in addition to $100 million in state surplus funds Governor Jindal and the legislature set aside in 2008 for the I-12 widening project. The $100 million investment in 2008 represented the most money ever spent on any one surplus funded project.
"The decision to widen I-12 further east to Juban Road is a wise investment for not only local residents and commuters but also the 100,000s of motorists who travel the fastest growing east-west corridor in the South and today's announcement is much welcomed news for the many folks of this region," said Senator Dale Erdey, R-Livingston. I compliment the governor, Secretary Ankner, and my colleagues, especially the Capital Region Legislative Delegation, for their efforts in making improvements to I-12 a high priority."
